Deck the Halls with Family Memories
by Jennifer Signore -- Being Savvy Pittsburgh
A lot of this tradition started with my parents, who always indulged me when I asked about every single ornament placed on the tree. I now tell those stories to my kids when we decorate our own tree. It's really quite fun. I love that our random, haphazard decorations really do have a theme--togetherness.
Many of them have survived and get a chance to see the light each year. The clothespin reindeer, the Popsicle stick sled, the beaded lady, the crocheted wreath. I used to look forward to the ornament project every year, and I can't wait to get the same tradition rolling in our house. This year, we're going to take a stab at Polish porcupines (also called Polish stars). Ha. Get it? Stab? Porcupines? I know, I know...Anyway, we bought one of these little gems a few years ago and both kids LOVE it. So, why not fill the house?
The memories we make each year will outlast any toys that find their way under the tree, and they will hopefully make the experience a special one for my kids. They certainly do for me.
